crypto: Remove unused test from ecdsa

serialize_to_writer method on the ecdsa::Signature. Since this was
removed as part of the bitcoin-io dep removal, the test should also
be removed.

Remove write_serialized_signature test case from ecdsa tests module.

Re-name consensus_encoding main traits

When we did the first implementation of the `consensus_encoding` crate
we used the same names for the public traits as the old encoding code.

In hindsight we should have used the more Rusty terms `Encode` and
`Decode` instead of `Encodable` and `Decodable`.

Bonus points the new names are easier to spell.

Do trivial-ish rename. Leave the `EncodableBytesIter` as is because
the fix to it is non-trivial. Leave the old encoding traits as they
are because they are destined for the grave very soon anyways.

Enable multiple tests in single macro call

Instead of calling the macro to define each test in a single call add
support for multiple tests in one call. Makes the code more terse at
the cost of macro complexity. Also we want to exclude these from the
formatter so a single macro call is way better.

Requires splitting one macro into three and removing the flag at
the front (display, lower, upper).

Delete psbt module

In #6055 we deprecated the `psbt` module on the `0.32.x` branch. Now
we can delete it from master.

### Context

Development of the PSBT has moved to a separate crate. Hosted on the
new Forgejo instance at:

https://git.rust-bitcoin.org/rust-bitcoin/rust-psbt

Crate name is `psbt-v2` because it has initial support for PSBTv2. The
crate also includes all code from the `0.32.x` branch (as well as
miniscript code). In other words the crate is a drop in replacement
for the `Psbt` type and its functionality.

During release of `psbt-v2 v0.3.0` we attempted to ensure feature
parity with `0.32.x` since the actual migration was done a while back.

The road map for dev of `psbt-v2` is loosely:

- Improve PSBTv2 stuff
- Continue work on supporting Silent Payments
- Use crate as a test bed for the process of upgrade of `bitcoin 0.32.x`

Exact strategy of the last point is being worked on. We are
investigating creating a bunch of step-by-step releases to help the
process. To prove (and develop) the process we plan on using:

- miniscript
- psbt-v2
- corepc

This commit removes the entire PSBT (Partially Signed Bitcoin Transaction) module from the rust-bitcoin library on the master branch. It is a planned code cleanup, not a security fix. Users who relied on the built-in PSBT support will need to migrate to the new crate when upgrading.

This commit adds a new, highly optimized implementation of the SHA256d hashing algorithm for 64-byte inputs, using Intel AVX2 processor instructions. It is a pure performance optimization that computes eight hashes at once. There is no indication in the commit that it fixes a security bug; it simply adds a faster code path.

test(p2p): Remove legacy encoding logic in `message`

Here we also remove tests for `CheckedData`, as the checksum will be
computed directly.

This commit only changes test code in the rust-bitcoin library. It removes old-style serialization tests and switches them to use a newer encoding API. No production code is modified, and there is no security fix or vulnerability introduced.

test(p2p): Remove legacy encoding roundtrip tests in `address`

In the case of these unit tests, the new encoding logic has already been
added alongside the old encoding. This simply removes the old encoding
cases

This commit only removes old test cases from the codebase. It deletes duplicate roundtrip tests that used a legacy encoding path, keeping only the tests for the new encoding path. No production code was changed, and no security vulnerability is present in the diff.

p2p: Compute checksum when decoding v1 messages

The `sha2_checksum` function is updated to take a `T: Encodable`, which
is passed to `hashes::encode_to_engine`. Two calls to `sha2_checksum`
are unwound, as `Vec<u8>` is not `Encodable`, but both of these
callsites will be removed shortly when `CheckedData` is removed along
with the legacy encoding traits.

This commit fixes a missing security check in the Bitcoin peer-to-peer message decoder. Previously, when receiving v1 Bitcoin network messages, the code decoded the payload but did not verify the 4-byte checksum in the message header against the actual payload data. That meant corrupted or tampered messages could be accepted as valid. The change makes the decoder compute the expected checksum and reject messages where the checksum does not match.

Lower-priorityImplement `AsRef<PushBytes>` for generic hashesby Martin Habovstiak · 3143b638 · Apr 24, 2026 · 2 filesMessage 80 · StrongInformational 18Details

Implement `AsRef<PushBytes>` for generic hashes

Some hash types provided by the `bitcoin_hashes` crate are natively
supported by the Bitcoin script and it seems natural that the users
might want to compute the hash from a preimage and push it into the
script. This is already doable by simply calling
`.push_slice(hash.as_byte_array())` because of the impls on `&[u8; N]`
however, we do support these casts in case of other hash types to make
it more convenient to push them into script and signal that it is usual
to put these objects into script.

To close the gap, this commit adds implementations for the missing
hashes.

This commit is a small convenience improvement, not a security fix. It lets several common Bitcoin hash types be directly used as 'pushable bytes' in Bitcoin scripts, so developers can write slightly cleaner code when building transactions. There is no vulnerability being patched.

ext: Add extension trait re-exports

The ext module in bitcoin is supposed to hold re-exports of all
extension traits. During the recent crypto and taproot-primitives moves
some new extension traits were added but not re-exported from ext.

Add NetworkExt, TargetExt, WorkExt, TapLeafHashExt, TapNodeHashExt, and
PrivateKeyExt extension trait re-exports to ext module.

This commit is a straightforward API cleanup: it adds missing re-exports of existing extension traits to a central 'ext' module so users can import them from one place. No code behavior changes, no bug fixes, and no security relevance.

Use drain instead of flush

The term 'flush' has meaning already in respect to a std writer thus
impiles that a function with 'flush' in the name would call
`writer.flush()` but we do not.

After debate we reached consensus on the verb 'drain' to replace
'flush'.

Rename all 'flush_to_writer' functions to be `drain_to_writer`
repository wide. To keep our API uniform also re-name `flush_to_vec`
to be `drain_to_vec`.

This commit is a simple rename of internal functions from 'flush_to_writer' and 'flush_to_vec' to 'drain_to_writer' and 'drain_to_vec'. The word 'flush' was confusing because it normally means something specific in I/O code, so the team chose 'drain' instead. No behavior changed, and there is no security issue.
